The Impressionist Art Movement was a period of time in France that took place in the 19th century. It involved artists going against the traditional art rules and traditions. Artists learned to create their own techniques and new ways of painting. The paintings usually were landscapes, people, nature, still life, or Paris. Artists were more open to experiment during this period. The painting I have chosen was done by Edgar Degas. Several of his paintings, like this one, have ballerinas. The reason I chose this painting is because I love the way he’s made the ballerina look. He’s painted her in a way that shows grace and beauty. The white in her dress and the little red flowers in them just glow with beauty. The painting technique also shows a style of gentle and grace which fits in with the theme. Also, the green backround makes it pop out outside of all the white in the painting and it makes it more visually pleasing for the eyes.
This is a piece done by Jon Coffelt called “Untitled 2”. The medium used in this work is acrylic on canvas. The piece has several different colors, which I am a huge fan of in art so that’s why it stuck out to me the most. The colors all have a repetition with the shape of a rectangle and each color stacked on top of the other. The work is categorized in ‘miscellaneous’ and under ‘singularities’. I think that with that being said, I feel that the piece means to be one among several others and that might have to do with the different colors being used. A single person or color, among the rest.
This is a link to some sketchbook pages done by various artists. The illustration pages really caught my attention though. They take up the whole page and are colored. They also have such a imaginative side to them that should come with any illustration, I think. They are all used with different mediums as well. This inspires me to get back into illustration / animation. I used to do nothing but animation but had to grow in other parts of art so I put it aside for a while. I’m going to start doodling some stuff in my sketchbook more often and hopefully see where it takes me.

This is a sculpture by Antony Gormley called ‘Home’. I chose this sculpture because it isn’t just the body, like in the rest. This sculpture has the body laying down on the floor with a house over its head. This really interested me because it reminds me of the story of Gulliver’s Travels since it’s like a giant laying down and a house on his head as if he grew out of it. With that being said, I wonder if the artist had any intention of incorporating it with that or even other fairy tale stories. (The Wizard Of Oz, Alice In Wonderland)
This is a photograph by Dada Movement artist Man Ray. I chose this photo because it isn’t a typical nude picture of a woman. It has two women and they have a kind of mask with a design/pattern. To me, the photo is strange yet shows beauty. It fits perfectly into one of the things the Dada Movement was about- ridiculing what was considered to be meaningless in the modern world. I assume that photos of women naked during that period was seen as meaningless and offensive. The Dada Movement was all about anarchy and being against things such as war. It was a cultural movement where people expressed their opinions and voices through art.
I chose this image because it seemed to stand out to me more than the others. I say this because to me, every other picture seems boring or cliche. This photo has more detail to it. You can see the fish and it’s body almost as if you were holding it in person. The eyes are so glossy looking and it’s almost as if you can see a reflection in the eyes. I really like how you can see the detail of the skin and teeth. The teeth showing how sharp they are and the skin, each little section different from the others. Overall, I liked this photo because of the detail and zoomed in concentration.
Once again, I couldn’t pick just one sooo here’s a link. I really like these sketches because not only are they creative but there’s a sense, I think, of an imagination theme. I kinda want to have my sketchbook filled page to page like this since I’m really into…uh…I’m not sure what the word is but kinda like fantasy/ imagination? Most of them have the color element of art, light value too.

These are a series of art pieces done by Lawrence Yang. A majority of these were made with watercolor, acrylic, and ink. I really enjoy these paintings because one, I’m a huge fan of tons of color, and these paintings seem to show that. And two, a lot of them, like the picture I posted, have a part of them that seem like the paint was blown on through a straw or even splattered on. I really like the creativity that goes with it too. The paintings have a feeling and element of imagination to me. http://www.suckatlife.com/artwork.html
Okay, this is really awesome. These people have obviously branched out into a different medium and used Netflix envelopes. The drawings are creative and each one is different than the other. This gives me some inspiration to try other mediums. http://www.stumbleupon.com/su/1Ldm5A/www.doodlersanonymous.com/entry.php%253FentryID%253D1678
This totally gave me some inspiration for our current project in A3. The huge words, the patterns, the colors. I like it because it looks poorly drawn but in the sense that it’s almost unreal and therefor it works well. (Can’t really explain it very well.) Anyways, yeah, this has given me some ideas for a sketchbook page as well. http://www.stumbleupon.com/su/1BsIuI/www.elizabethgarvey.com
